Sally McEwen gets it! At 16 years old she has already created a curriculum and is teaching elementary school students about grants, saving money, budgeting and helping meet the needs of people in their community.
In today's post on The Agitator, Tom Belford asks, "What does it take to get people with means to give a damn about other people they'll never know?" Sally McEwen and people like her are providing answers and taking steps in the right direction.
A few weeks ago I railed on my own generation for its self-indulgent nature. Stories like Sally's give me hope that the Millennial Generation has the capacity and the willpower to be the Next Greatest Generation. I especially like that she includes budgeting in her curriculum. If people wait until the end of the month to see how much money is left over, they won't ever make philanthropy a priority. Because without a budget, you can pretty much count on too much month left over at the end of the money!
Rock on, Sally!
